SnackleBox Lunch: A Fun Lunch Idea for Kids

Sometimes the best ideas come from needing to make something work with the time you actually have.
Today was Parent Lunch at my kids’ school, and my original thought was to sneak out of Bible study, grab them a hot lunch somewhere, and surprise them at school.
Except…there really wasn’t time for all of that. 😅
So, Plan B: the SnackleBox.
And honestly? I think they liked Plan B better anyway.
I filled ours and was able to keep it cold through Bible study, and a few hours later everything was still ready to pull out and enjoy at school. No drive thru stop. No trying to time hot food perfectly. Just a whole box of little things they love.
What I put in ours
I went for a mix of lunch foods, fruit, crunchy things, and a few fun fall treats:
- Ham and turkey
- Ritz crackers
- Two kinds of cheese
- Mandarin oranges
- Fall colored candies
- Chocolate covered pretzels with a little pumpkin spice flavor
Basically, a kid friendly charcuterie board…in a box. 😊
And that might be my favorite thing about a SnackleBox lunch: there really aren’t any rules.
Build Your Own Kid Friendly SnackleBox
If you want to make one for lunch, a road trip, sports day, picnic, camping trip, or just a fun change from the usual sandwich, I like the idea of choosing a little something from a few categories:
🥩 Pick a protein:
Turkey, ham, chicken, salami, pepperoni, hard boiled eggs, cubed chicken, or rolled deli meat.
🧀 Add some cheese:
Cheddar cubes or slices, string cheese cut into pieces, Colby Jack, mozzarella pearls, or whatever your kids actually eat.
🍓 Add fruit or veggies:
Mandarins, grapes, berries, apple slices, cucumbers, mini peppers, snap peas, or carrots.
🥨 Something crunchy:
Crackers, pretzels, popcorn, pita chips, Goldfish, Cheez Its, or tortilla chips.
🍫 And something FUN:
A few candies, yogurt covered pretzels, mini cookies, chocolate covered fruit, seasonal treats, or whatever makes opening the box feel a little special.
You can even change it with the seasons. Today’s had a little fall theme, but I’m already thinking about how cute a Christmas SnackleBox could be. 🎄
The part I love most
Yes, it’s a fun way to serve lunch. And yes, the compartments make my organized little heart happy. 😂
But what I really loved today was that it let me do both.
I didn’t have to skip Bible study or spend the morning rushing around trying to make a surprise happen. I could prepare it ahead of time, keep it cold, show up for lunch, pop the lid open, and enjoy that little pocket of time with these two.
And judging by those smiles, I think the SnackleBox was a win. 💜
Have you ever made a SnackleBox lunch? If you have a kid approved addition I missed, send it my way. I’m always looking for new ideas!
